On Motsi Shabbat, December 10, 2022, founder Simcha-Chaya Ben Avraham lost her beloved sister, Purity, a pillar of service and cultural joy in her community. Supported by emergency donations, Simcha-Chaya traveled to Scotland to be by her side.
In honoring Purity's memory, Simcha-Chaya transformed profound grief into action. For Our African Jews was established as a living testament to human resilience, extending community service, education, and mutual support to children and families across emerging African Jewish communities.

Located in the Nakagyo Trading Center, Buyengo Town Council, Jinja District, Uganda, the Karen Nursery and Primary School serves 107 pupils, providing a Hebrew, English, and general curriculum.
Under local headmaster Joseph and director Loko Avaran, the academy addresses critical childhood welfare, nutritional deficits, and educational barriers.
We believe in building economic self-sufficiency, not dependency. We collaborate with local businesses and trainers to connect African Jewish youth with remote work onboarding, digital skill prep, and resume coaching.
Zimbabwean-Israeli artist Simcha-Chaya Ben Avraham created the ZimAliyah digital art collection to fund community projects. All proceeds from the art are routed to local Uganda school programs and aid.
